Business associations are membership organizations established to represent and serve the business community. They are generally made up of enterprises and individuals engaged in trade, industry/manufacturing and business/merchandising whose members share common interest and goals.The main goals and motives behind establishment of Business Associations and Chambers of Commerce and Sectorial Associations are promoting the interests of business community both at national and internal levels, making fair business competitions in business environment, encouraging Business to Business (B to B) networking relationship in local or foreign market, promoting the linkage between industry and agriculture.
Business organizations are the sole representation of business community to serve their members several areas of business variables like marketing, finance, human resource and product and service design.Business organizations are an engine to assist business community in all fields of business development sectors and venture creation areas. Business organizations are pronounced every day in business personnel and strong sound than individual business personnel in all areas and accomplish its objectives as soon in responsible bodies.
Historically, modern forms of business associations and chambers of commerce began in France in the early 1800’s subsequent to medieval Europe merchant guilds administered by merchants seeking to protect/regulate their trades. In the same manner as modern business associations, the guild’s pre occupation included such activities as supervising weights and measures; running arbitration boards for disputes, administering ports and markets; gathering aggregating, and presenting business views to the community; organizing commodity exchanges; and collecting and providing information on commerce and trade.
In similar fashion, Adama Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association is one of the oldest business associations in Ethiopia next to AddisAbaba Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association. The association has been established forty years back around 1960s’ which was aimed at serving business community in different areas like advocacy service, legal service, promotion nation products and services, information, and certification of origin and capacity building of the members in order to excel in business. Currently, the Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association has around 28,000 active members who demand different services from association. The Chamber has identified the gabs and the problems in business community as irritating issues that can be solved either through our association or by assistance of other bodies. the output of the finding indicate that the main problem within the business community is lack of know how/knowledge and skill gabs in business startup, conducting business operation, networking with national and international business to business relationship, negotiation on business issues, industry or business to business linkage with similar industry.The other point under the study was absence of adequate training and business development center in the town
